The English

We had a visit from the English court today. They're so.. blasé.

No offence to those of you who are English, but George the Second, and his wife, Caroline aren't exactly the most entertaining people on the planet. Maria Leszczyńsk was in seclusion, a few weeks from giving birth, which left me to entertain them, what with being the King's official Mistress. It was an odd day, and I found Caroline to be tedious, though I did try to be polite and entertaining as best I could.

Welcome

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you all to my blog. The blog of Madame de Pompadour. It may not be very interesting, and sometimes you may find yourself bored, but that is very much up to you, and I cannot have influence on that.

Not much influence, anyway.

I woke bright and early this morning, to the sound of birdsong outside my window. Breakfast was due to be served in the dining hall at 8am sharp, and from the sounds outside my bedroom doors, I could tell the hour was nearing. I stood and called in my good friend Annalise who helped me dress. Although she is a servant in the kings household, Annalise is a good and trustworthy friend of mine, and it is always her whom I call upon to help me dress to impress the king.

Sitting beside the Queen at breakfast, we had a delightful conversation about the ambassador for England who was due to be arriving today. Thinking of England reminded me of that girl, Rose, who had been a friend of my beloved Lonely Angel. My Doctor.

I find myself eager to see him. Although I know I should only have eyes for the king, I cannot help the way I feel about the Doctor. The way he comes and goes so quietly. That night we danced will live forever in my memory.. and he created that drink.. what did he call it? I cannot remember, but I must remember to ask him the next time I see him.

If there is a next time.

God speed, my lonely angel.
